Cambridge, UK based application developer Augmentra specialises in outdoors mobile navigation with its ViewRanger GPS product, which is being increasingly installed on the smartphones of hikers, mountain bikers and trail runners. The app combines mapping, GPS location, navigation tools and performance statistics to deliver an effective & economic alternative to dedicated GPS terminals. The app has won a number of industry & media accolades and receives high star ratings from users. It has been running for over three years and is now live on Symbian, Android, and Apple platforms.

Following the injection of $1 million of private investment over the last 12 months, the company is now pursuing an international expansion programme to leverage the global reach of the app stores. This programme includes localization of the app into languages appropriate for global geographies. Having recently completed the launch in the German language with the help of intern staff, the company now wishes to replicate this process in French.

The role: ViewRanger need the assistance of a mother tongue French speaking (& fluent English) intern student to lead the translation of all aspects of the app into French. This will encompass in app menus, web server strings, wikis and faqs, together with marketing materials such as the app store copy, press release materials and advertising copy. Additionally support will be required in terms of helping to identify sports community bodies, the most appropriate media and other influencers to help define the marketing strategy and to seed the launch. The work may be undertaken from any location, but would require a couple of visits to our UK HQ at the start and end of the programme. The German translation and launch project took about two months of fairly solid participation, so we would anticipate a 2-3 month duration.

The candidate: As well as having a command of new technology and marketing skills, the perfect candidate would ideally be interested in outdoor sports pursuits, so as to be able to correctly localize the terminology used by these disciplines.
